You were looking at yourself in the mirror. Taking a deep breath, you took off your white t-shirt and turned sideways. Hands over your abdomen, you sighed. A growing bump was definitely there. You felt your heart pounding in your chest. Looking down at yourself you wondered, was a little human really growing inside of you? There was no denying it. Over a month had passed and your period still didn’t hadn’t arrived. Mornings had been rough for about a month too, with constant vomiting and feeling nauseous.
You had to tell Levi. There was no avoiding it at this stage. The thought of telling Levi terrified you; he hated children with a burning passion. Having children of your own was something that you never really talked about having children of your own; it wasn’t really much of an option for you two, considering the world that you lived in. Two squad leaders, with their lives constantly on the line fighting titans… what kind of children could you possibly raise in this cruel and dangerous world?
Yet… you wanted this child, and if Levi didn’t… you weren’t quite sure if you could give it up. You looked at the golden ring that hung from a chain around your neck. Holding it, you closed your eyes. He’d understand… right?

“Hey, shit-glasses.”
“What is it, shorty? I was in the middle of conducting a very important experiment on Tommy.”
“Tommy? Really. That’s how you’ve decided to name it?”
“Aww. Don’t be mean to Tommy, he likes his new name!”
Levi let out an irritated sigh, shaking his head slightly, “Anyway, shit-glasses, I called you to ask about (f/n)…” he paused, “Do you know if anything is bothering her?”
“Shorty is worried about his darling wife, how adorable!” Hanji said as she squealed in excitement, a creepy grin spreading across her face.
“Shut up,” Levi growled, “Just answer the question, will you?”
Hanji shook her head, “I know she hasn’t been feeling well recently, but apart from that… nothing comes to mind.”
Levi sighed, leaning back in his chair and looking out of the window. He was quiet, until he heard a knock on the door. “State your name and intention!” he called out.
“Levi… it’s me, (f/n). We need to talk.”
Levi glared at Hanji, “In the closet. I’m not finished with you yet,” he hissed under his breath.
“Oooh~” Hanji started saying, but Levi cut her off as he shoved her in the closet and closed the door.
“Come in.” he called out as he sat back down and pretended to do paperwork. Nervously, you walked into the room, closing the door behind you. “What is it?” he asked, in that usual monotone voice of his. Normally it didn’t bother you, but this time it made your heart skip a beat. Taking a deep breath, you sat down across from him.
“L-levi… what do you think about children?” you asked. He must have felt your unease as he got up from his chair and made his way to you, sitting down on the edge of the table next to you.
“You know: I don’t like them,” he said, looking intensely at you, “They’re all just tiny brats.”
You gulped, pausing, “Have you ever thought about… you know, having children of our own?”
Levi blinked, quiet for a moment. Although his silence only lasted an instant, it felt like an eternity to you. “Oh god. Please don’t tell me that the mid-life crisis has hit you,” he groaned, pausing once more, “But it is impossible, you know that (f/n). It would be reckless and stupid of us to do such a thing.”
You nodded in agreement, looking down at your trembling hands.
“Anything else you wanted to talk about?” Levi asked, standing up and walking back behind his desk. In his mind, the conversation was over.
“Levi, I-“
“Speak up, shit-head. I can’t hear you.”
You took a deep breath, “Levi. I’m pregnant.”
You looked up, waiting to see his reaction. The little man froze on the spot, slowly looking into your eyes. “What.”
“I’m pregnant,” you repeated, quickly regretting your decision to tell him, “I’m pregnant with your child.”
Oh god how terrified you were at that instant. You loved the short man, you really did. But the way he looked at you, with those cold, emotionless, grey eyes… it sent shivers up your spine. You closed your eyes, waiting to receive his wrath.
“What do you mean you’re pregnant!?” He growled, as he started pacing up and down the room, “What were you thinking?”
“I’m sorry, Levi. I-“
“Bit late to be sorry, now, isn’t it?” He snapped, “What are we going to do now anyway, (f/n)? We can’t possibly raise a child now! We don’t even have our own place for god’s sake. And the titans, what are we going to do when one of us die beyond the walls? Or if they break through the walls! Have you thought about that?”
You felt yourself shrinking in the chair as you received Levi’s fury. You could no longer hear what he was saying. You just saw his mouth opening and closing. You felt tears starting to fall down your cheeks. You couldn’t take it anymore.

*SLAP*

“Shut up!” you shouted, standing up as even more tears rolling down your cheeks, “I said I’m sorry, but you have as much fault in this as I do. So don’t you dare put all the blame on me you fucking bastard!”
Levi looked at you in shock, a hand brought up to his now red cheek. You rarely shouted at him, but more importantly, you had never slapped him. Never.
“I can’t believe that was actually excited to tell you!” you shouted at him, brushing tears off your face, “I’ve had enough of this.”
You turned to leave, but Levi grabbed your arm.
“(F/n), I…”
“Unhand me you twat!” you growled, ripping your arm out of his grasp as you stormed off.
Levi ran behind you, “(f/n)! (f/n), wait!” he called out, but with no response, “tsk.”
He turned, rubbing his cheek. But he was met with a very disappointed Hanji.
“That wasn’t nice, shorty.”
“Shut up, shit-glasses. This is none of your busine-.”

*SLAP*

Hang looked angry and hurt. “(f/n) didn’t deserve that Levi,” she said, “And I thought you had changed. God how wrong I was, you are still the same cold-blooded, heartless bastard,” she shook her head, “You are not to leave this office until you think about what you have done and apologised to (f/n).”
“Tsk.”

*~*~*~*~*~*

You were in your room, curled up on the bed, hugging a teddy bear. You looked at the slightly worn stuffed animal… Levi had bought it for you a few years back, having caught you eyeing it from afar. You sighed, your face felt sticky from dried up tears, but you were too tired to get up and wash your face.
Fucking Levi.
Why did he shout at you? What had you done to deserve such treatment?

*Knock* *Knock*

You rubbed your eyes, sitting up. “Who is it?”
“(f/n)… it’s me, Levi. Can I come in?”
You groaned curling back up on your bed. Levi, after a few seconds of silence, walked in anyway. He saw you curled up on the bed, hugging the teddy bear. He sighed, walking over to the side of the bed and sat down. After taking off his boots, he lay down next to you, wrapping his arms around your waist and pulling you close against him. The sudden unexpected touch sent shivers up your spine, but you refused to turn to look at Levi. He simply let his head rest onto of yours.
“I’m sorry,” he said softly, “I’m sorry that I shouted at you (f/n). You didn’t deserve that. It just caught me off guard,” he paused, “Do you forgive me?”
You grumbled a bit, not wanting to give him the pleasure of saying yes. Eventually you turned around, snuggling your head against the crook of his neck. “You’re a shit-head,” you mumbled, taking a deep breath, inhaling that oddly comforting smell of detergent. Levi didn’t respond to your comment, he just grumbled a bit before placing a gentle kiss on the top of your head.
“Do you really not want to have children of your own?” You asked quietly.
He sighed, “Of course not. I guess in some way, I do want to have little shit-heads of my own.”
“Children, Levi. Children. Not shit-heads.”
“Sorry, ‘children,’” he said, “I guess I’m just worried I wouldn’t be the best father for them. I’ve never been good with children.”
“You’re short, foul mouthed, grumpy, obsessed with cleanliness, emotionless, you have violent tendencies -“
“Okay. I get the hint.”
“But you are Levi,” you continued, “You are loving and compassionate, you care about the life and well-being of others… in your own special way. You are an honest man, Levi. You are the man that I fell in love with.”
“Okay, shut up now shit-head. This conversation was supposed to be me comforting you, not the other way around.”
“Love you too.”

You two enjoyed the silence and each other’s company for a few minutes, for times like these were scarce.
“We’ve got to tell Erwin,” Levi eventually spoke, “I can’t have you slaying titans while carrying our child.”
Your eyes lit up, it seemed like Levi had calmed down and came to his senses. You smiled, snuggling closer to Levi. Maybe everything was going to be alright after all…
Wait.
“Hey. I can still slay titans perfectly!” you said, sitting up, “You’re screwed out there without me!”
Levi sat up as well, his thumb tracing your face. “I can’t risk loosing two shit-heads to one titan.”
“You are so fucking romantic Levi.”
He bent down, gently kissing your stomach. “Hey, Brat. Don’t dare cause your mother any more trouble or you and I are going to have a very serious conversation in 9 months time.”
You blushed, looking down at Levi acting so… fatherly. In his own way.
Wait.
“For the record, we are not calling the kid brat.”
“Aww fuck.”
